From Bariloche I took an aeroplane south to El Calafate. Here I went to visit the Moreno glacier, a vast wall of blue and white ice that is exceptionally beautiful. The Moreno glacier is rare as it is one of the only glaciers that is still growing rather than shrinking due to global warming. While I was watching, a huge pillar of ice broke away from the glacier face and crashed with a loud splash into the lake below. It was a magnificent sight.
