Well, after the most fantastic Christmas ever I'm back below the arctic circle again. When I first saw the sun again I was amazed at how bright it was! The sun never came up whilst we were there, it got light, but only dusk and dawn and I guess our eyes just got used the light. So when I opened the curtains and looked out at the glorious sunshine it was so bright!
Seeing as we'd been to Sweden I wanted to play a Swedish instrument when I came home, so I got to play the Swedish Willow flute. It's a flute with no finger holes, just one to blow in. The air goes over a fipple (recorders and whistles have fipples that make the sound). Then to change the pitch you have to blow harder or softer. I wasn't very good, but I did enjoy it. One of the best players of the Willow Flute is Jean Pierre Yvert, he is awesome and actually made the instrument that I played. They tend not to be made out of Willow any more because plastic piping lasts pretty much forever and willow only lasts for a few weeks in the spring!
I'm off on another adventure next week, but I think it will have to be pretty amazing to beat meeting Santa Clause (or Tomte as he's called in Sweden) and sleeping in a room made of snow. I really would love to go back!
lots of cuddles
